The English in Particular

2015  England is a land of extraordinary variety, rich in buildings, landscapes, peoples and wildlife. England in Particular, by Sue Clifford and Angela King (2006) for the charity Common Ground, is an encyclopaedic "celebration of the commonplace, the local, the vernacular and the distinctive" - a counter-blast against loss and uniformity, a celebration of the distinctive details that cumulatively make England. This extensive series of portrait photographs, of which only twelve are shown here, is inspired by Clifford and King's book, and aims to capture the character and personality of "the English".
