Humber Bridge

Bolton has been a centre for textile production since the 14th century when Flemish weavers settled in the area, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition.

During the 19th century the town became one of the world’s great cotton-spinning centres, its mills, foundries, and engineering works helping to drive the Industrial Revolution. Although much of this industry has disappeared, the legacy of manufacturing remains visible in the town’s architecture, street pattern, and enduring sense of working-class pride.
