In the 60 years since John Bulmer came to photograph Bradford, the city has undergone significant transformation, shaped by both industrial decline and profound demographic change. Once a global centre of the wool trade, the city’s mills and factories defined its economy and identity through much of the 20th century. As these industries declined, from the 1960s onwards, Bradford faced economic hardship, depopulation in some areas, and the challenge of redefining itself.
