Jodrell Bank
22 August 2025
Jodrell Bank Observatory, part of the University of Manchester, stands as perhaps the North’s most iconic scientific landmark, the Cheshire skyline defined by the immense sweep of the Lovell Telescope. Completed in 1957, the telescope was a bold feat of engineering, designed at a time when radio astronomy was in its infancy. The vast white dish of the telescope has become a symbol of Britain’s role in exploring the universe - tracking satellites, probing deep space, and contributing to key discoveries in astrophysics.
