Humber Bridge

Motorways have become one of the defining features of the modern northern landscape, cutting through hills and moorland, skirting towns, and linking cities in ways that would have been unimaginable a century ago. Built largely in the post-war period, they reshaped patterns of movement, labour, and daily life, enabling faster connections between industrial centres while also accelerating the decline of older, more localised economies.
