Rotherham has experienced significant change over the past 60 years, shifting from a town defined by heavy industry to one navigating the complexities of post-industrial identity and multicultural growth.
In the mid-20th century, coal mining and steel production dominated both the economy and daily life, shaping tightly knit working-class communities. As these industries declined from the 1970s onwards, Rotherham faced economic hardship, job losses, and the challenge of redefining its purpose.
