Whitby

Whitby Goth Weekend, 27 May 2025

Humber Bridge

Whitby, a striking coastal town, is renowned not only for its dramatic cliffs, historic abbey, and maritime heritage, but also for its unexpected status as a hub of Gothic subculture. Its connection to Bram Stoker and his novel Dracula - partly set in Whitby - has given the town a lasting association with the Gothic imagination. The ruined abbey overlooking the harbour and the 199 steps rising from the old town provide an atmospheric and timeless backdrop that blurs the line between fiction and place.
